It is one of the main attractions of the area. It was made under the Despotate of Epirus in the 14th century. If you look closely at the elegant arch of this famous bridge, at first you will not notice anything unusual.
In Epirus, there are many such stone testimonies, which reveal a long tradition and precise architectural understanding. But this is the only one related to the sad folklore around the builder. He had to use his own wife as a "cornerstone" to protect the bridge from collapsing.
History has inspired many plays, operas and folklore and is, according to the Greek poet Kostis Palamas, "a masterpiece of folk art, such as a verse from a Homeric hymn and poetry and music, if any, to serve as source of inspiration".
